>Handbrake off. Go.

>My first race of the year on the Bentley by-pass was the Farnham RC 10m TT today. Tomorrow I ride it again for the Charlotteville CC 50m TT.

It was a breezy day and I wasn’t feeling up to much. However, I arrived early and toddled round part of the course in an effort to circulate blood and instil enthusiasm. I’m glad I looked at the conditions because I was prepared for a hard couple of headwind miles at the start. I rode well and recorded a PB LTS of 24:20 (actually my fastest ’10’ since 1983). Wooh hooh! I was absolutely stuffed afterwards – I hope have something left for the ’50’ tomorrow.

There’s only one slight downer on the day… The last few races I’ve ridden I’ve noticed that the front brake was rubbing at the end of the race. Before each event I re-centred the wheel and adjusted the brake 80s style (brute force). Today I decided to adjust it using the new-fangled adjuster screw. It seemed to work better. I hope I haven’t been riding the last few races with the equivalent of the handbrake on.
