>A float day at last! Or it would have been if it had been 15 degrees warmer. Even at the end of the race my legs were numb from the cold. At least I thought to wear long sleeves and long fingered gloves today. It was pretty windless though.
The event was the London and Home Counties Group of the VTTA‘s 10m TT from Marlow to Maidenhead Thicket and back (the H10/22). We’d covered these roads yesterday in the 25m TT. My approximate time for the miles involved was 26:10, so a sub-26 minute ride was the target, and for once I achieved it with a 25:41. A good ride I thought. My heart rate was depressed by the cold again, but the perceived effort felt about right.
Race stats: 10 miles in 25:41 (23.36mph). 22nd out of 41 finishers. Slowest mile (3): 3:07 (19.25mph). Fastest mile (9): 2:10 (27.69mph). Top speed: 30.5mph. First 5 miles: 13:20, next 5 miles: 12:21. Max heart rate: 157bpm, average HR: 150bpm. Winner: Peter Weir (Maidenhead and Dist CC) 21:36.
That’s two 5am alarm calls in two days – enough! If I race tomorrow it will be the evening circuit race at Hillingdon.
