>Back to Hillingdon for the Westerley CC club 10m TT. The race is 11 laps of the circuit (actually about 10.4 miles on the GPS). The threatened showers held off, but there was a breeze that nagged away at you as the race progressed.
I had planned to ride at 90% after last night’s effort. Fat chance. I caught and passed two people on the first lap and felt good. The second lap felt good too. However, on the third lap the lactic acid and reality kicked in and I was suffering again. Everyone knows that even pacing is the way to go, but it’s difficult to achieve because of the lag between making the effort and paying the price. I didn’t achieve it: my first two miles went by in 2:37 and 2:36, the next two in 2:43 and 2:49(!) and then I settled into a rhythm of 2:42-2:45 laps until the finish. I went through 10 miles in 27:09 and ended up with a 28:15 for the full distance – the same time as club mate Chris who eased up with a lap to go because he’d lost count (easily done).
Race stats: 10.4 miles in 28:15 (22.11mph). ? out of ? finishers. Slowest mile (4): 2:49 (21.30mph). Fastest mile (2): 2:36 (23.08mph). Top speed: 27.4mph. First 5 miles: 13:28, next 5 miles: 13:39. Max heart rate: 164bpm, average HR: 159bpm. Winner: Malcolm Woolsley (Westerley CC) 24:45.
