>Up until now I’ve had a month of consolidation. I did a 1:3:42 for ’25’ at the beginning of May and since then I’ve been there or thereabouts at ’25’ and have managed to bring my ’10’ for the season ‘into line’ with a 24:50.
Today was a good day. It was a little damp and cold (at 7am), but the wind was light. I rode the Westerley CC ’25’ on the Marlow course (the third time on this course this season – I’m learning it now). My start was as pathetic as ever. I wasn’t feeling great, but I pushed on round and finished with a 1:1:21, my fastest since 1980 and my 6th fastest time ever. I was pleased that my pedalling rate was up compared to the last couple of weeks.
I’m aiming to break the hour by season end. It now looks possible, but I’ll need a good day on a good course.
The extra effort seems to have had an effect on my right knee, which is sore. I hope it clears up soon. If it does I might ride the Tuesday night 4th category race at Hillingdon.
Next Sunday sees me riding a 50 mile TT for the first time in years. I am trepidatious.
