>I went to see Graeae‘s production of Blasted at The Soho last night. This play has been ‘there’ ever since I started playwriting. I’ve read it, workshopped it, taught it, but never – until last night – seen it in production (it doesn’t get out of London much). I’ve always admired the writing, but the play on its feet was a surprise – I had under-read the attraction the characters have for each other. Graeae’s take on the play is fascinating. I was worried that it might fatally ‘cool’ the play, but their approach puts key moments under the microscope in a different way.
It was good to see Jennifer-Jay Ellison playing Cate. She was a member of Worcester Swan Theatre’s youth theatre when I worked with them around the turn of the millennium.
