>Michael Billington’s review of Drunk Enough to Say I Love You? is in and he’s enthusiastic – which is a good thing (other bloggers have been less convinced). Why then does it feel as if he saw a different show to me? One obvious reason is that he did (different night, later in the run). I think, though, that it is his certainty, his ability to pin the play down, that grates. Encore Theatre Magazine has a very good piece on The Evening Standard awards, in which they have a go at critics for preferring plays with easily encapsulated ‘messages’ to more ambiguous work.
